1 1/2 c Sugar
1/2 c Butter
3 Eggs, beaten good
2 c Flour
1 ts Baking soda
1 ts Baking powder
1 ts Cinnamon
1 ts Allspice
1 ts Nutmeg
1 c Sour milk
Beat together sugar and butter till creamy. Beat in eggs. Sift flour,
then measure. Sift all dry ingredients together. Pour about 1/3 of
the milk into the sugar mixture and mix well. Then put about 1/3 of
the dry mixture in and beat well again. Continue alternating liquid
and dry. Add a cupful of dates or nuts if desired. bake in a moderate
oven till it tests done.

temperatures. I have typed them in as they appear in the book, typos
and all.
